Our latest (mis)adventures

I’d love to say that I haven’t blogged lately because I’ve been so busy. In fact, the opposite is true. The last couple weeks have been consumed by sickness passing from person to person, moaning about the snow and cold weather, and just trying to stay sane as we anxiously wait for spring.

Desperate for a change of scenery and to get a “little” help with our taxes, we headed to Pleasantville (my folks) for the weekend—and getting to Pleasantville proved to be the challenging part. The short version is that Romey had a well-check appointment (prior to leaving) and got five-stars. She’s nearly twelve pounds, and got five shots, and one oral vaccine. I rushed an agitated and cold baby outside (where Avery and Dan were waiting) to witness Avery getting locked in our running car while sitting in the driver’s seat. Dan and I panicked as we watched Avery touching buttons, and giggling, and bouncing up and down. Thankfully Dan was able to convince her to touch the right button, lowering the driver’s side window low enough for him to reach in and unlock the doors. You’ve just got to love that auto-lock feature, right?

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Bloomington, and loved getting a small break from the girls. The hard part is coming home when we’re back to man-on-man defense. Romey’s a little grouchy (who’d blame her after all those shots), and Avery’s busy being two—a little bossy britches who has been screaming orders at us lately. It’s not uncommon to hear her yell “CHEESE!” “MILK!” etcetera. We’re trying to teach her to talk nicely, and politely but I’m not sure we’re making much progress. I always want to be mindful about not complaining about our blessings, but the truth is, these girls are kicking our butts; they’re winning, we’re losing, and we’re seriously outnumbered and tired. I guess it a rite of passage of sorts, one that I’m hoping we’ll be laughing about again soon—Dan even went so far as to tell me to beg for my old job back and check in to daycare ;) We’re going to make it—I believe it, and I know it.

In other news, Dan continues to be the incredible shrinking man—30 pounds lost to date. We’re so proud of him. And Avery can’t get enough of Dora and Wonder Pets—two Nickelodeon shows that make cold pajama days a little more fun. Romey’s decided that she’d like to roll soon, and is kicking herself to her side. She’s also cooing a lot which is so doggone cute it melts my heart every single time. I’m determined to get it on film and post it (hopefully soon). In the meantime, back to the day-to-day activities of the Nelson household. I really do love it!

A big Romey smile!
